Update: Quinny Moodd has collaborated with award-winning fashion designer, Rachel Zoe, to create the Rachel Zoe Jet Set Quinny Moodd Special Edition.

Who says that a baby stroller has to be boring?

As a modern parent who believes that neither style nor functionality should be compromised, I’m simply in love with the modern, stylish and unique designs of Quinny strollers.

Quinny is one of Europe’s most respected stroller brand, and is a trendsetter in terms of design and style. Over the years, they have introduced a series of strollers – Yezz, Moodd, Buzz Xtra and the Zapp Xtra.

Of these, there are 2 main travel systems – Quinny Moodd and Quinny Buzz Extra.

Why Choose Quinny Moodd?

Moodd was first released in 2012. It was seen as an upgrade to the popular Quinny Buzz by taking the most loved elements of Buzz and making some sleek updates. Since January 2015, Quinny has been offering a lifetime guarantee on all Quinny products purchased new.

Take a look at why the Quinny Moodd is referred to as ‘The Majestic Stroller’ here:

What’s Included In The Quinny Moodd 3-in-1 Travel System?

The Quinny Moodd stroller can be easily transformed into a 3-in-1 travel system, when you combine it with the Maxi-Cosi Mico AP infant car seat and the Quinny Tukk Foldable Carrycot. The adapter which is compatible with the Maxi-Cosi infant car seat and Quinny carrycot, is included free when you purchase the Quinny Moodd stroller.

Quinny Moodd Travel System Review Summary

Looking For A Travel System That You Can Use From Birth?

When matched with a Maxi-Cosi Mico AP baby car seat, transferring your child from the car out to the Quinny stroller becomes a breeze.

The Maxi-Cosi infant car seat is a premium car seat that is light (8.6 lbs) and features an ergonomic handle for extra comfort while carrying. It is a rear-facing only car seat suitable for babies from 5 to 22 Ibs and 19 to 29 inches tall.

NOTE: Rear facing car seats are found to be more than 5 times safer than forward facing seats. It is recommended by safety experts to use rear facing only seats for newborns as such seats are better suited (compared to convertible car seats) for their small bodies and allow the infants to travel in a semi-reclined position that reduces the pressure placed on their spine and neck.

What’s more…?

Maxi-Cosi Mico AP infant car seat features its patented Air Protect® Side Impact Technology. This air cushion system helps support and protect the baby’s head and neck, where it’s needed most.

It also comes with an adjustable Sun canopy and a flip out visor to protect the baby’s sensitive eyes from the sunlight, which is especially useful when the car seat is used with the Moodd stroller frame.

The car seat has an adjustable stay-in-car base, and can be installed onto the car using either LATCH anchors or seat belts.

Maxi-Cosi has also developed a special range of color that matches perfectly with the colors of the collection of Quinny strollers.

Looking For A Pram?

Simply combine the Moodd stroller chassis with the Quinny Tukk Foldable Carrier, and it will be instantly transformed into a perfect and cozy (not to mention stylish) pram.

This foldable carrycot offers the optimal comfort for a newborn on a stroll as it allows the newborn to travel lying flat. It can accommodate babies from birth to about 15 Ibs. The inside of the carrycot measures 29 inches by 11 inches, so it should be able to last till the baby is around 6 months old.

It’s amazing how the foldable carrycot can collapse down in seconds, leaving you a very flat and compact package of only 5.7 inches thick. All you need to do is press and slide the button on the base. This makes it extremely easy to store and transport.

The carrycot is ultra-light, weighing only 9.8 Ibs. There’s a handle on the hood that you can use to carry the bassinet, but note that you won’t be able to carry the carrycot with the baby inside just by the handle.

The Tukk carrier is very easy to attach onto and detach from the chassis of the Quinny Moodd stroller via the adapters. You just need to ‘click’ the carrier in place on both sides when attaching. When detaching, just press the buttons on both sides of the adapters to lift the carrier. It doesn’t require both buttons to be pressed simultaneously to release, so you can release one side followed by the other.

Your baby will be kept very comfortable as there’s a lot of soft thick paddings around the insides of the carrycot. The thick foam mattress, as well as all the fabrics and paddings, are removable so that they can be hand-washed when dirtied. The material of the liners are good quality and soft, and your newborn will love it in there.

Besides looking trendy and being comfortably plush, the Quinny carrycot is also designed to protect the little ones from the wind and the Sun, and shelter their sensitive eyes from the Sun. There’s a padded apron that zips over the top, as well as an adjustable canopy with an additional pull out Sun visor.

The carrier also has rubber feet so that you can place it on the ground without dirtying the fabric. Hence, it can even serve as a stand-alone nap spot for your little one at home or outdoor, without being attached to the Moodd chassis.

I really like the idea of using the Quinny Tukk Foldable Carrier with the Moodd stroller frame as a pram. Your baby can comfortably fall asleep while you take her out for long walks and upon reaching home, you can continue to leave her to sleep soundly in the carrycot pram.

What We Like About The Quinny Moodd Stroller

baby-in-quinny-moodd

  1. Telescoping handle bar

When searching for the right to stroller to buy, parents need to remember that their own comfort are just as important as the child’s.

Not being able to walk with their natural stride, constantly kicking the rear wheels of the stroller, and developing a bad case of backaches from pushing the strollers hunched-over are common problems faced by taller parents.

What is nice about this Quinny stroller is that the pushbar is adjustable. The handle extends from 37” to 41” above the ground to accommodate the tallest and shortest of moms and dads. Simply press on the button in the middle of the handle bar to adjust the extension of the handle bar to your height so that you can stroll in comfort!

The rear of the stem is also curved upwards so there’s plenty of room for your legs.

The pushbar is also covered with soft foam which is great for a firm grip.

  1. Stylish and eye-catching design

Quinny Moodd Travel System Color Selection

What really differentiates the Quinny strollers from other strollers in the market is really the stylish and eye-catching looks.

To put it simply, it actually turns head…

Do not be surprised if you are stopped along the streets by strangers to be asked what stroller this is.

The ultra-modern design of the seat and canopy gives the Moodd stroller a unique egg-shape, which has a chic feel.

It also comes in 8 different colors – Black Irony, Blue Defiance, Natural Delight, Pink Passion, Red Envy, Green Courage, Blue Reliance and Black Devotion.

The Black Irony, Blue Defiance, Natural Delight, Pink Passion color schemes feature a white frame, while the rest feature a shiny black chassis which are matched by the shiny plastics on the seat to give a sleek feel.

Check out the how the different color options looks on Amazon here.

If you’re looking for something that’s even more eye-catching and different, you can check out the Moodd by Britto model. It is a collaboration between Quinny and Romero Britto, a recognized Brazilian artist.  The frame and the T-bar are all covered with bright colorful designs that really stand out from the crowd.

More recently, Quinny has collaborated with Rachel Zoe to create a special edition, inspired by her fashion and jetsetting lifestyle. The Quinny Rachel Zoe Jet Set Moodd edition features premium cognac leather and stylish gold detailing that complements the classic black fabric and white frame.

  1. Easy to fold, easier to unfold

Folding the stroller is easy. But you will still need both hands and ensure that the seat is in the forward facing position to do so. Pull the two levers on both sides of the frame and push the handle bar downwards. The Moodd stroller will fold just right before your eyes. It’s automatically locked too.

Unfolding is even easier! All you have to do is push the button to unlock the stroller’s automatic lock. With the unique gas-spring mechanism, the stroller will gently unfold itself. It’s almost hands-free… you will need to slightly lift up on the handle to guide it open.

No more struggling with complicated unfolding procedures, especially if you are carrying your baby in your hand and getting off the cab!

  1. Reversible Seat

This Quinny stroller is an excellent choice even for young babies below 6 months old as the seat is reversible. So you have the choice of having your baby face you or face the streets. Not forgetting the esthetics, the back of the seat has the same stylish design as the frame so that the stroller looks just as great even when the seat is reversed.

It’s easy to reverse the seat, simply press on the 2 buttons on both sides of the seat to detach the seat, lift it up, turn it around and click the seat back into place.

Only caveat is that you’ll need to remove your child from the seat first as it will be too heavy to do so with the child still aboard. You also need to remember that when you fold the stroller, the seat must be in the forward facing orientation.

  1. One-hand recline feature

I absolutely love it that I can easily recline the seat to the desired position with just 1 hand. Simply pull the lever button behind the seat, recline it to the desired position and the seat will click into place.

The seat can be reclined to 3 positions – upright, half-way, and flat (just short of fully flat), in both forward facing or backward facing orientations. This is definitely a great feature; perfect for the little one’s nap time while we moms continue shopping!

Although the reversed deep recline position is said to be suitable for newborns, I personally would only put a baby in it after 3-4 months old because the seat is not totally flat and the design of the stroller seat is relatively open.

For newborns, I would highly recommend using the Quinny Tukk Foldable Carrier to transform the Moodd into a safe, warm and comfy pram that allows the baby to lie totally flat.

  1. Flip-flop friendly braking system

The braking system of Moodd consists of 2 foot pedals in the back.

The red pedal on the right is to lock the stroller and a grey pedal on the left is to release it. Definitely flip-flop friendly, though you do need to step down quite firmly.

  1. Smooth push across all terrains

Overall, the push of this Quinny stroller is smooth and doesn’t feel as heavy as its weight.

It has a good combination of 2 big wheels of 12” at the rear and a 7” double hard rubber wheels in the front. The front swivel wheel can rotate 360 degrees for maximum maneuverability, but can be locked straight for greater stability when going through rough terrains. The rear wheels are foam-filled comfort wheels (upgraded from air-filled wheels!).

With this set of wheels, this Quinny stroller can tackle any tough terrain like uneven pavement, grass, playground mulch and gravel without much problems nor worries about punctures. The foam-filled wheels and great suspension system also help to absorb the bumps along the way, ensuring that the little one enjoy a smooth ride no matter where you go… even while you’re trekking.

Curbs are unavoidable if you are walking around the city, so it’s good that the stroller is easy to mount onto curbs because of its well-thought-out weight distribution.

  1. Amazing maneuverability

The Moodd maneuverability is good. It’s pretty light and effortless to push on a smooth ground or if you have a smaller child onboard. However, if you have a child near the weight limit, you’ll definitely need both hands.

Turning circle is small, but the rear wheels are pretty wide at 26” so it could be cumbersome if you’re in a tight space. However, this wide base is also what gives the stroller great stability.

  1. Roomy seat and adjustable 5-point harness

The seat of the Moodd stroller is pretty roomy. Worried that your child will not fit? Here’s the seat specifications:

  • Seat width – 13.7″
  • Seat back height – 21″
  • Bottom of seat to top of canopy – 24”
  • Weight limit – 50 Ibs

The 5-point harness is adjustable so that as your child grows, you can increase the length of the harness with the sliders as well as adjust the height of the shoulder harness higher (there are 3 different height settings). The only concern is that the center release button could be too easy for an older toddler to open.

The shoulder pads are well-cushioned to ensure comfort, but may seem a little bulky for the smaller babies. The 2015 Moodd model now has the harness padding color coded to match the rest of the stroller.

  1. Water and dirt repellent fabric

The seat cover is made of water and dirt repellent fabric, so it’s easy to wipe off spills. It’s also easy to remove the harness pads, as well as the entire seat unit in 1 piece so that the stroller frame can be wiped clean.

As the seat is wipe-clean only, you should choose the darker-toned stroller if you are afraid of stain marks on the stroller over the years of usage.

  1. Unique T-shaped bumper bar

Now, this reminds me of roller coaster rides…

The T-bar slots into the seat unit and sits between the child’s legs, providing good security and preventing the toddler from escaping (especially if they are squirming while you do up their harness). You can also remove the T-bar totally or let it drop down (there’s an elastic attached to the seat).

The bumper bar does look stylish and little boys may feel excited (role-playing driving). However, restless toddlers will not have any support to lean on the sides.

What I Wish Could Have Been Better

  1. Heavy

The Moodd stroller weighs 33 Ibs (well, the cool unfold mechanism comes at a weight). For moms, you may not be able to easily throw the stroller into your trunk unless you remove the seat first and put the 2 pieces in separately.

  1. Bulky

You may have to remove the rear wheels to make the stroller more compact in order to fit into smaller trunks. It’s just a push of a button, but may get a little annoying if you have to do it every time.

  1. High quality sun canopy but moderately-sized

I must say that the quality of canopy is pretty good. It is UPF 50+ and the material is bouncy and stretchable so it doesn’t go out of shape.

The canopy size is decent but not the biggest in the market. It might not be big enough to shade your child from the morning or evening Sun, especially if you are living in a sunny climate. It would be ideal if Quinny had the option to convert to a floating canopy for full Sun coverage.

  1. Adjustable footrest, but…

The footrest can be adjusted up and down. However, it only extends up to only 8” from the seat, which is relatively short and may not work for kids older than 2 even though the weight capacity can accommodate bigger toddlers. I’d like to have it telescope further down so that older or long-legged kids will have a more comfortable ride, without having to ride with their knees propped up or legs dangling.

The footrest is also not connected to the seat all the way so there will not be any flat surfaces/calf rest to support the baby’s legs before they are long enough to reach the footrest.

  1. Shopping basket wouldn’t impress moms who are serial shoppers

The shopping basket at the bottom of the Moodd stroller is medium-sized and shallow. It has a maximum capacity of 5 kg, but it’s probably just sufficient to fit a diaper bag.

The basket is only accessible from the sides of the stroller.

  1. Lack of storage

Aside from the shopping basket, there’s no additional storage or pockets for me to keep smaller items. I’d love to have some small pockets or storage places to keep items, such as wallets, keys or small snacks, so that they’re handy and convenient to reach.

  1. No peek-a-boo window

Like many other luxury strollers, this Quinny stroller does not feature a peek-a-boo window which is such a pity as I would love to see what my little one is doing from time to time.

What Other Accessories Can I Get For My Brand New Quinny Stroller?

Unfortunately, there’s a lack of free accessories that comes with the strollers. There are a number of accessories for the stroller that will make the parent’s life easier, but you’ll have to buy them separately. You may want to consider the clip-on cupholder and the rain cover. The rain cover for the Moodd stroller is easy to put on and remove, fits perfectly in place and is big enough to do a good job in keeping the rain out.

My Verdict On The Quinny Moodd Travel System

The Quinny Moodd 3-in-1 travel system is a great travel solution if you’re looking for something that you can use from birth. I love how the way Quinny Foldable Tukk Carrier works as a pram on the Moodd frame. It is practical, stylish and a real comfort for the newborns.

The Maxi-Cosi infant car seat provides seamless and easy transfers from the car to the streets. And what more can I complain about the stylish and futuristic looks of the Quinny Moodd stroller and its uber cool unfold mechanism? The caveats would probably be its weight, bulkiness and the moderately sized canopy.

They do have very detailed instructional videos and manual, which is very helpful and entertaining at the same time.

The price tag of this travel system is higher than most household brands that everybody else is using, and it is considered a premium and luxurious system. The extra features and the design itself is very modern and eye-catching, making your Litte One and you hard to miss in a crowd. If the Quinny Moodd is within your budget and fits your personality, go for it and travel in style:)

Where Is The Best Place To Buy The Quinny Travel System?

Ideally, you’d want to check the travel system out in the stores, but not all departmental stores carry this premium brand. Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby do carry them, and you should head over to test it out yourself if these stores are in your vicinity.

If you like what you see, then you could buy it then and there, or order it from Amazon and have it delivered to your door step.
